Celebrating Nature

I took BigGuy and Bird to see Disney’s movie, Earth, on Sunday. If you haven’t taken time to see this fascinating nature documentary, I highly recommend it. You can click here to learn more about it.

As the boys and I watched close-up video of flowers budding, waterfalls rushing, and animals migrating, I was overwhelmed with emotion. (I still don’t think BigGuy and Bird understood why I was crying during parts of the movie.) Even though the movie never mentioned that God created this earth, I couldn’t watch it without thinking of Him. Seeing all the intricacies with which He created us made me desire to walk with God in His glorious creation, taking in all the sights and sounds with only Him.

Yesterday, I finally did.

After dropping both boys at school, I put my walking shoes on and ventured out to the nearest park. For thirty minutes, I walked, prayed, looked, smelled, and heard the sounds of God’s beautiful creation. I watched animals scurry through the brush. I heard birds calling in the air. I smelled honeysuckle and freshly cut grass. I drank it all in. I savored the special time with my Creator.

Today, I want to encourage you to see, smell, touch, and hear the marvelous creation that God made just for you. Take time to leave your busyness, your suburbia, your house and step into the world of nature. You will be amazed at not only the creation, but the Creator, as well.

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).

(Parental Note:  FYI, the movie, Earth, does contain some scenes that show animal predators chasing and catching their prey.  The scenes however, are not gruesome in nature.)

Kristen: You inspired me to get back to walking this morning. We signed up in Weight Watchers to work with a trainer and eventually walk 5 K by July 6. I got up early and was
stalling by checking your blog. When I saw what you had done, I got going! Thanks so much! I walked 25 minutes. The Disney film sounds great. Love, Mom2

Kristen, I so happy you had this time in nature! It's harder to do this type of thing when you've got "youngsters." Now, that my boys are older I don't miss my morning, prayer walk. I know it has a huge impact on the rest of the day. I see God's creation around me, like I never noticed before! Lately, it's been the birds coming alive to me! So many birds, so many types of birds, so many colors of birds, so many different sounds of birds...all happily flying to and fro. Landing for split seconds and then off, ever so fast, to a new destination.
Love, Lori
